Published April 16, 2008

ALEXANDRIA, Va. - Mr. Robert Burkhardt, director of the Army’s Topographic Engineering Center (TEC), received the Army’s Decoration for Exceptional Civilian Service during an awards ceremony held at the Pentagon yesterday. This decoration is the highest Department of the Army honorary award granted by the Secretary of the Army.

Nominees for this award must have established a pattern of excellence and achievements which normally have been recognized by previous honorary awards. Mr. Burkhardt was acknowledged for his exemplary leadership of TEC’s research, development, and operational support, resulting in critical operational support to deployed forces in the Global War on Terror; subsequent stabilization and reconstruction efforts in the Gulf region; and development and fielding of both updated and new geospatial systems to troops in the field.

The Exceptional Civilian Service award was approved by the War Department on December 29, 1945, and consists of a gold medal, lapel button and certificate.
