AGC Imagery Office

Background

The AGC Imagery Office (AIO) is the U.S. Army's commercial imagery acquisition agent as defined in AR115-11. AIO serves several functions in its role as monitor, as defined in AR 115-11, Army Geospatial Information and Services. The AIO provides expertise for users requiring new commercial imagery collections or unfunded/unlicensed archived imagery requirements. AIO leverages and utilizes the EnhancedView contract, COMSAR contract and other NGA IDIQ commercial contracts. Efficient management of the research, acquisition, and dissemination of imagery and imagery products is increasingly important as Army units expand their use of remotely sensed data. AIO collaborates with the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA), commercial satellite imagery vendors, federal civil data providers and the AGC data dissemination team, in order to collect and disseminate commercial satellite imagery and imagery products, AGC BuckEye aerial imagery, and select IFSAR/LIDAR. Data resources and repositories accessed by AIO include the Net-Centric GeoINT Discovery Services (NGDS), the EnhancedView Web Hosting Service (EV-WHS), NGA web pages with downloadable imagery products, the United States Geological Survey (USGS) and the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA).

Current Operations

Army funds for commercial imagery procurement have dwindled in recent years so AIO offers many avenues in which to satisfy valid imagery requirements at no cost. Using government contract vehicles, such as the NGA EnhancedView contract, one solution for AIO to acquire commercial imagery data at no cost on behalf of the Army. Additional solutions for satisfying imagery requirements for AIO and customers with access to these resources include the use of archived imagery repositories at NGA and other agencies. AIO’s collection manager in coordination with the Army Departmental Requirements Office, is authorized to submit requirements on behalf of Army customers for new or archived imagery collections through the NGA Geospatial Information Management System (GIMS).

Future Developments:  AIO will continue to leverage NGA resources, provide commercial imagery research, acquisition and dissemination for the Army Warfighter and USACE Civil Work through existing and newly developed commercial satellite technologies.
