The Geospatial Information Library supports the scientists and engineers
of the Army Geospatial Center, which is part of the US Army Corps
of Engineers. The Geospatial Information Library focuses on physical geography,
terrain analysis and military hydrology, and provides support to all authorized
Army, Department of Defense agencies, and other US government organizations.
As part of our mission to Army Geospatial Center,
we provide information and imagery in support of the US Army Corps of Engineers’ worldwide
humanitarian assistance and planning teams. We have worked to support disaster
relief efforts by the Corps of Engineers in the past, and most recently
for the drought relief efforts in the Darfur region of the Sudan. We also
supported their efforts after the tsunami and earthquake in the Indian
Ocean; the hurricanes Katrina, Rita and Wilma;
and supported the engineers and US Marines working on the recent mudslides
on Leyte in the Philippines.
Now we supply data in planning for the humanitarian relief efforts after
the eruption of Merapi on the Island of Java in Indonesia.
This page is designed primarily to be used as our outreach to those US
military and government hazard relief workers and engineers already on
the ground in Indonesia. The data are culled from a number of specialty
libraries, private agencies and government document resources, both military
and civilian. The geologic maps and other data displayed here can be printed
out onsite or used online. For those US government and military employees
who need further information on these displayed maps or the cited articles,
please contact us at the address below.
This page is also open to the public, except for those items which require
a US government “Common Access Card (CAC)” card to access.
For those viewers who are not US government civilian or military employees,
original copies of many of these maps and reports can be borrowed through
the inter-library loan agreements from your corporate library, or from
your local public, university or school library. See your reference librarian
for more assistance.
