Governance

Governance is the system by which entities are controlled, including the structures, processes, and people that ensure accountability, transparency, stability, and standards.

Two key elements provide the Army Geospatial Enterprise's governance - the Army Geospatial Information Officer (GIO) and the Geospatial-Enterprise Governance Board (GGB). These elements ensure quality leadership and enforce accountability.

Army Geospatial Information Officer (GIO)

Mr. Gary Blohm (Army Geospatial Center), is the Department of the Army's Geospatial Information Officer, the Senior Executive Service–level officer for Geospatial Information and Services (GI&S); responsible for coordinating, assessing, and synchronizing Army policies.

Mr. Gary Blohm, U.S. Army Geospatial Information Officer.

Mr. Blohm facilitates the guidance of the Army’s Geospatial-Enterprise Governance Board. He manages the operational, administrative, and daily responsibilities of the Army Geospatial Enterprise.

Additionally, he works in cooperation with the Assistant Secretary of the Army for Acquisition, Logistics and Technology, to ensure compliance with geospatial standards.

Geospatial-Enterprise Governance Board (GGB)

The Army’s Geospatial-Enterprise Governance Board is the decision-making body that addresses the geospatial issues impacting the Current and Future Force.

The Geospatial-Enterprise Governance Board unifies Army geospatial activities by establishing policies, enforcing standards, and ensuring synchronization of actions. It ensures the Army Geospatial Enterprise is synchronized across the Army and within the Department of Defense as well as the National System for Geospatial-Intelligence.

The Geospatial-Enterprise Governance Board is co-chaired by the Chief of Engineers, Lieutenant General Scott Spellmon, and the Deputy Chief of Staff, G-2, Lieutenant General Scott Berrier.  Other principal members include the Military Deputy, Assistant Secretary of the Army for Acquisition, Logistics and Technology ASA (ALT); the Chief Information Officer/G-6; the Deputy Chiefs of Staff for G-3/5/7, G-4, and G-8; and the Commanding Generals for U.S. Army Futures Command, U.S. Army Materiel Command, U.S. Army Forces Command, and U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command.
