Data Model - Installations
Installations are the "home" of the U.S. Army, providing the infrastructure and resources to enable Total Army readiness around the globe.
By implementing and using a standard geospatial data model for installations across the Army and Department of Defense (DoD), we can collect and share information about our military installations.
The Spatial Data Standards for Facilities, Infrastructure, and Environment, also know as SDSFIE, is the Department of Defense family of Information Technology standards that ensures maximum interoperability across Installation, Environment, and Civil Works missions.

SDSFIE is used by installations to collect, manage, analyze, and visual their geospatial data. Because the data is collected in a standardized way, summary information from installations around the world can be consolidated with ease.
The SDSFIE standards and data models are managed by the Installation Geographic Information and Services (IGI&S) Governance Group (IGG), a cross-Service DoD governance body, which is chaired by the Geospatial Information Officer for the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Energy, Installations, and Environment.
The IGG coordinates IGI&S standards through the GEOINT Standards Working Group chaired by the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency.
The SDSFIE includes standards for raster and vector data, services, portrayal, data quality, and metadata. A brief overview of the standards can be found here.
SDSFIE makes standards and workflows available to users. The workflows include the Data Dictionary, Browse/Generate, Model Builder, Migration, Adaptation Reviewer, and Validation tools.
