Application Description and Background
The Enterprise Geospatial Data Management (EGDM) application (https://jecop.usace.army.mil/egdmapp), created by the U.S. Army Geospatial Center and hosted on the Joint Engineer Common Operating Picture (JECOP) web portal (https://jecop.usace.army.mil/portal), is a powerful data acquisition and production tool with an ever-expanding library of datasets that include various DoD generated GGDM 3.0 compliant datasets and worldwide coverage of Open Street Map (Figure 1). These data can be utilized for extraction or map product creation in both connected and disconnected environments using a user-friendly web interface. The EGDM application is built upon an ESRI Enterprise Portal component backed by a suite of servers that store, process, and manage all hosted datasets, product creation tools, and user created jobs. Simple interface commands truncate the complex backend of the application into a direct,
easy to navigate array of menus and prompts. This model offers users easy access to the tools that would typically require advanced understanding of enterprise systems and geospatial data, while also combining the EGDM toolset into a wider web portal package that includes a library of additional content, groups, and applications.
Key Capabilities
With the EGDM application, users can readily accomplish many tasks,
including:
- Request data in several formats (Shapefile, KML, File Geodatabase, Geo package, Map Package) based on areas of interest.
- Retrieve specific authoritative datasets compiled into Army Geospatial Center and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers recognized schemas.
- Create map products on demand using vector and imagery collections spanning across all COCOMS.
- Edit, extract, and/or analyze retrieved data disconnected from the web application.
- Upload data to broaden EGDM holdings, as well as for quality assurance and project management purposes.
- View HR3D web scenes generated from imagery and LIDAR collections through the Buckeye program (Figure 2).
