Geospatial Certification

Geospatial certification ensures that Army systems are compatible with Standard Sharable Geospatial Foundation (SSGF) standards and are geospatially interoperable.

Army Geospatial Enterprise (AGE) Certification is required for the Army's geospatially-enabled Army Programs of Record (PORs) and non-PORs, which are any systems capable of acquiring, collecting, managing, storing, producing, exploiting, visualizing, or disseminating geospatial information. AGE Certification increases Army Geospatial Enterprise efficiency, effectiveness, and interoperability.

The Army Geospatial Center coordinates with the G-6 identified independent test center executing Army Interoperability Certification to ensure AGE Certification and Army Interoperability Certification testing processes are aligned as applicable.

The AGE certification workflow.

AGE Certification ensures geospatial interoperability

  • Coordination. During the coordination phase, AGE Certification personnel coordinate with the Army Program Managers (PM); collect information relevant to the AGE Certification process; establish geospatial and interoperability requirements; identify, address, and resolve technical issues, gaps and concerns; and identify the geospatial test threads used during AGE Certification testing.
  • Planning. The planning phase includes finalizing the test locations, schedule, plans, test cases, and testing sequence of events in coordination with the PM.
  • Execution. The execution phase is where geospatial exchanges are evaluated based on the approved test thread. AGE Certification utilizes data validation tools and step-by-step procedures to execute the certification test. Results are documented in Observation Reports (OR) and Test Incident Reports (TIR).
  • Reporting. After the execution phase, the Army Geospatial Center Subject Matter Expert (SME) assesses the test results and develops an AGE Certification recommendation. Based on the recommendation, an AGE Certification, AGE Certification Waiver, or Not Certified documentation is drafted and forwarded to the Geospatial Information Officer (GIO) for final approval, signature, and dissemination.
