Description and Background

The US Army Geospatial Center (AGC) has developed a tactical scale (1:24,000 - 1:200,000) Army planning dataset focusing on local-level mapping of networks, patterns and features. The Regional Terrain Planner (RTP) is designed to serve as an operational planning tool to support military mobility studies in corridors between Urban Tactical Planner (UTP) analysis areas from multispectral satellite imagery and other high fidelity raster and vector data. The dataset can be produced to operate at the Unclassified/CUI level by using the appropriate data sources for that level (such as imagery, maps, and available open source datasets).

Feature Types and Distribution

The RTP includes numerous feature types, including land-cover, transportation networks, obstructing features, and military points of interest, populated with supporting attribution to add
further value to the analysis. The dataset is extracted at an intermediate scale, placing the level of detail of the RTP in between the Engineering Route Study (ERS) and UTP datasets in regions of greater interest to the DoD. The features and attributes collected within the RTP are Ground Geospatial Data Model (GGDM) compliant. A full RTP dataset is hosted as part of the Enterprise
Geospatial Data Management (EGDM) web application (https://jecop.usace.army.mil/egdmapp (permissions required)) on the USACE Joint Engineering Common Operating Picture (JECOP)
ArcGIS Enterprise Portal (external site), along with the UTP, ERS, and other military terrain datasets. ArcGIS Geodatabases of the RTP tiles may also be downloaded from the AGC PKI Website at https://cac.agc.army.mil. RTP data is available for download in ESRI Shapefile format, GeoPDF, KML/KMZ formats, GGDM3.0 Full and GGDM3.0 Flat (No Subtypes) File Geodatabases.
The JECOP web portal also allows a user to store and share geospatial products and can be accessed here: https://jecop.usace.army.mil/portal.

Enterprise Geospatial Data Management (EGDM)

AGC's Warfighter Support Directorate recently deployed a web application that allows users to interactively request areas of interest for AGC's foundational datasets. The EGDM application allows for and enables co-production between AGC and its mission partners. Within the EGDM web application, users can request RTP data in several formats (Shapefile, File Geodatabase,
Geo package, Map Package) based on pre-existing RTP areas of interest. Automated custom workflows run user-generated jobs to visualize, model and obtain data. The presence of the RTP
dataset on the EGDM Web Application brings this data significantly closer to the point of need for the Army consumers. The seamless format and on-line tools available allow CAC enabled users' easy manipulation and extraction of key data to achieve mission success.
