U.S. ARMY GEOSPATIAL CENTER SUPPORTS JAPAN QUAKE, TSUNAMI RELIEF EFFORTS

The U.S. Army Geospatial Center (AGC) compiled earthquake, water, and geology maps as well as other data sets of Japan and made them available via its public and public key infrastructure (PKI) Web sites last week in support of U.S. quake and tsunami relief efforts.

The U.S. Army Geospatial Center’s Hydrologic and Environmental Analysis branch compiled earthquake, water and geology maps, as well as a number of other data sets and made them available via the AGC’s public and internal Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) Web sites in support of U.S. humanitarian efforts to Haiti.

Army Establishes New Army Geospatial Center

Headquarters, Department of the Army, approved the establishment of the U.S. Army Geospatial Center (AGC) today. The AGC, formerly known as the Engineer Research and Development Center’s Topographic Engineering Center (TEC), will become a direct reporting center under the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE).

ARMY APPOINTS SERVICE’S FIRST GEOSPATIAL INFORMATION

Mr. Robert Burkhardt, director of the Engineer Research and Development Center’s Topographic Engineering Center, was recently appointed as the Army’s first Geospatial Information Officer (GIO) by Headquarters, Department of the Army’s Geospatial-Enterprise Governance Board.
