Johnston joins Civilian Employee Fund Council

Published April 19, 2007

Deanna Angel Johnston is TEC’s new representative on the Fort Belvoir Civilian Employee Fund Council (CEFC). The CEFC supports approved morale, welfare and recreational activity for civilian employees of each organization and tenant activity at Fort Belvoir. The council provides TEC with approximately $3 per civilian employee on the unit manning document each year. These funds help finance the Holiday and Picnic Committee activities.

Johnston joined TEC in September 2006 as a secretary in the Geospatial Applications Branch and recently was promoted to Research Division secretary. On volunteering for the council she said, "I enjoy being involved and giving a helping hand when needed." She replaces long-time council volunteer Charlotte Bell, who is retiring May 3.

While assigned to the Army Materiel Command (AMC) at Fort Belvoir, Johnston was a member of the Fundraiser Committee for the AMC annual picnic. During an assignment as a personal assistant to the U.S. National Military Representative to the Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE), Belgium, Johnston organized the U.S. portion of the annual National Military Representative Birthday Celebration at SHAPE.

The CEFC operates with funds provided by Fort Belvoir’s Post Restaurant Fund Council. These funds come from profits on purchases at vending machines and cafeterias where a considerable percentage of the personnel at the sales location are federal civilian employees. During monthly meetings, members conduct business related to activities sponsored either solely by the CEFC or jointly with other organizations. The CEFC hosts/co-hosts health fairs and stress workshops and maintains a "loan closet" of equipment such as canopies, sports equipment and coolers for organizations and personnel with a designated federal civilian employee point of contact to receive and return the equipment. The council also sponsors visits to New York City for shopping and shows, fishing trips, dinner theaters and sporting events. These trips/events are limited to Fort Belvoir federal civilian employees and one guest or immediate family members, based on the nature of the event.
