On October 15, 2020, the Assistant Secretary of the Army, Acquisition Logistics and Technology (ASA (ALT)) endorsed three Army Geospatial Center’s Standard and Shareable Geospatial Foundation (SSGF) Enabling Technology Support Services (ETSS).

The Technical Designation Memorandum, signed by Ms. Evans-Morgis, ASA(ALT) Chief Systems Engineer, formally recognizes the three SSGF ETSSs and directs implementation.

These services deliver geospatial systems engineering direction to Army Program Managers and the Computing Environments. Implementation of these services will speed development, reduce costs, increase geospatial interoperability, reduce development risk, and provide needed capabilities.

Each SSGF ETSS contains implementation guidance, including technical standards, architecture products, use cases, data flows, data schemas, and a phased implementation plan.

The endorsement recognizes these three ETSSs as technology enhancements that will support Army developers in implementing the SSGF, which provides standard and interoperable geospatial data to Army systems.

The three endorsed technology enhancements include:

  • SSGF ETSS #1 – Initial Load and Update of Geospatial Data
  • SSGF ETSS #4 – Geospatial Analytics – On Road Route Planning
  • SSGF ETSS #6 – Digital Vector Map

Based on the ASA (ALT) endorsement, the Army Geospatial Center will create SSGF ETSS Development Packages and engage with Programs of Record and Computing Environments in modernizing their geospatial capabilities.
