U.S. ARMY NORTHERN COMMAND’S DEFENSE SUPPORT TO CIVIL AUTHORITIES SYSTEM MANAGES CIVILIAN EMERGENCY SUPPORT REQUESTS

This summer, as wildfires burned relentlessly in Colorado, the Department of Defense (DoD) assisted the in the fight to save civilian lives and property. Using refitted military cargo aircraft, 3,000 gallons of fire retardant were dropped at a time in advance of these fires to slow their spread.

The U.S. Army Geospatial Center (AGC) is now distributing Modeling and Simulation (M&S) terrain databases along with operational geospatial products on its Common Map Background (CMB) website with the goal of providing a single repository for all geospatial products.

U.S. ARMY GEOSPATIAL CENTER RELEASES “HyDRA” SMART DEVICE APP

The U.S. Army Geospatial Center (AGC) and Engineer Research and Development Center recently released the Hydrologic Data Resources Application (HyDRA) - a Web-based data survey and analysis tool created to provide the Dept. of Defense (DoD) logistics and geospatial intelligence-related water communities with information on water resources data collection, visualization and dissemination in a mobile, enterprise-enabled environment.

The U.S. Army Geospatial Center (AGC) will demonstrate its award-winning BuckEye and Geo-referenced PDF (GeoPDF) programs as well as its Instrument Set, Reconnaissance and Surveying (ENFIRE) kit, GeoGlobe and Remote Ground Terminal (RGT) during the U.S. Geospatial Intelligence Foundation’s 2011 GEOINT Symposium (San Antonio), October 17-19 at Booth 522.

VISONE, HARDAWAY AWARDED ARMY ENGINEER ASSOCIATION’S BRONZE ORDER OF THE DE FLEURY MEDAL

Daniel Visone and Mike Hardaway recently received the Bronze Order of the de Fleury Medal from the Army Engineer Association in recognition of their superior leadership, selfless service and career contributions to the U.S. Army, Army Geospatial Center (AGC) and the geospatial community.

AGC’S DOD DEFENSE SUPPORT TO CIVIL AUTHORITIES SYSTEM AIDS FEMA’S HURRICANE IRENE SUPPORT AND RECOVERY EFFORTS

The U.S. Army Geospatial Center’s (AGC) Department of Defense, Defense Support to Civil Authorities Automated Support System (DDASS) was used to coordinate over 29 Mission Assignments (MAs) and $18 million in Joint, Army, Air Force and Navy assets deployed to stage Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) equipment and personnel at Incident Support Bases along the East Coast during and after Hurricane Irene.

The latest version of CMB On-line performs faster than the previous iteration and offers several new features to users, including additional easy-to-change map bases, a scale display and a coordinate display via latitude/longitude decimal degrees and/or Military Grid Reference System.

TERROR MAP OF AFGHANISTAN PUBLISHED IN ESRI’s ANNUAL MAP BOOK

Environmental Systems Research Institute, Inc. (ESRI) will publish a “Terror in Afghanistan” map created by Mr. Stephen Benzek, cartographer, U.S. Army Geospatial Center (AGC), in its annual “Map Book”. The book is dedicated to acknowledging the important and innovative accomplishments of geographic information system (GIS) users around the world.
