    Rebecca Ragon, a technical editor at the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center’s (ERDC) Topographic Engineering Center (TEC) Alexandria, Va., was recently selected as chair of the Committee on Public Awareness for the U.S. Society on Dams (USSD).
  • Free GeoPDF Mapping Format Extension Available to Department of Defense Users

    The U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center’s Topographic Engineering Center (ERDC-TEC) created and released an extension for ESRI's ArcGIS 9x. The GeoPDF to ArcGIS extension, which is free and available only to Department of Defense agencies, will allow users to import the TerraGo® Technologies GeoPDF® or geo-referenced PDF file format for viewing, manipulation and utilization as map backgrounds into ArcGIS.
  • USACE lecturer Dr. Michael Izady visits Alexandria site

    Dr. Michael Izady, a guest lecturer with the USACE Global Issues Seminars, visited the Humphreys Engineer Center at the Alexandria site Sept. 12. Izady is a subject matter expert on Middle Eastern studies. His presentation addressed the issues of land and resources, language, religion and ethnicities, sources of discord and rebellion, and future prospects for the immediate and long-term in the region.
  • Pribble receives Army Engineer Association scholarship

    Michael Pribble, a science aide in ERDC-TEC’s Data Signature and Analysis Branch (DSAB), recently received a $1,000 academic scholarship from the Army Engineer Association (AEA) Individual Member Scholarship Program. The scholarship honors deceased Army Engineers and individual AEA members, Maj. Gen. Leif J. Sverddrup, Command Sgt. Maj. Robert W. Elkey and Saul Horowitz. Pribble received the Horowitz Award which is given to a Department of the Army Civilian engineer in grade General Schedule 9 and below.

    Katherine Marie Arthur is a third year civil engineering student at UVA, and came to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Engineer Research and Development Center-Topographic Engineering Center (ERDC-TEC), Alexandria, Va., through a pathway that proves marketing who we are and what we do is worth the effort.

    Raymond G. Caputo recently received the 2006 Director’s Award for Scientific and Technological Achievement from the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center’s (ERDC) Topographic Engineering Center (TEC) Alexandria, Va.
  • Regiment of Engineers selects Popp as honorary chief warrant officer

    Chief Warrant Officer 5 Jeffrey Popp, U.S. Army (Retired), a physical scientist in ERDC-TEC’s Geospatial Information Imagery and Requirements Branch was recently selected as the Honorary Chief Warrant Officer of the Regiment of Engineers. He was recognized during a formal installation ceremony conducted by Maj. Gen. William H. McCoy, commandant, Fort Leonard Wood, at the Engineer Force Regimental dinner.
  • Watts selected as special projects officer

    Joseph M. Watts was recently selected as the special projects officer in ERDC-TEC’s Executive Office. He will also serve as the program manager for various special projects. Watts was formerly an associate technical director in the Office of the Technical Directors.
  • ERDC team members receive recognition for achievements

    Three team members were recently recognized for their significant contributions, leadership and innovation, and support to the center. Robert Pazak, a computer scientist in ERDC-TEC’s Research Division, received the Commander’s Award for Civilian Service for his “significant contributions to the calibration of the Buckeye cameras and to the color correction of Buckeye orthoimages”.
  • Pivotal Warfighter System Awarded Army’s Greatest Invention of the Year Honors

    The U.S. Army’s Research, Development and Engineering Command recently selected the Topographic Engineering Center’s (TEC) BuckEye program, a highresolution, Intelligence, Surveillance, Reconnaissance (ISR) and 3D mapping system, as a 2006 Army Greatest Invention of the Year for the center’s development of a leaner, faster, more efficient method of collecting and disseminating geospatial intelligence information to deployed Soldiers.
